Primary Hypogonadism
This refers to impaired testicular function - the testes fail to produce adequate testosterone. Contributing factors include:
- Congenital defects: Undescended testicle, Klinefelter’s syndrome
- Infection: Mumps, HIV/AIDS, others
- Toxin exposure: Heavy metals, radiation, chemicals
- Trauma: Testicular injury
- Cancer treatment: Chemo, radiation
Primary hypogonadism requires testosterone therapy to compensate for insufficient natural production.
